LAB-X Experimenter Board Selection Guide

The table below shows the different features offered by each of our extensive line of experimenter boards.  The most important factor when choosing a board is the package size and pinout of the PICmicro MCU that you plan to use for development.

Keep in mind that our compilers allow you to "port" your program code from one microcontroller to another.  This allows you to develop on virtually any PICmicro MCU, even if you intend to use a different controller for the finished product.  A few minor changes to register settings and pin aliases is usually all that is needed to accomplish this.

Because our compilers allow you the flexibility of easily ported code, the LAB-X1 is our most popular experimenter board.  It has the most extensive set of peripheral possibilities.  Many users start development using the Microchip PIC16F877A, regardless of the MCU that they ultimately plan to use.

All models include a 5-volt regulated power supply, a 9-pin serial port connector suitable for connection to a PC, an in-circuit programming (ICSP) connection compatible with melabs programmers, and prototyping area for adding custom circuitry.
